Animated explainer videos

The hardest90 secondsyou'll write

I make 60 to 90 second animated explainers, from script to final file, for clients across Australia. Most take about six weeks.

An explainer has one job: take a product, a service or a policy, strip out the jargon, find the story and turn it into something a stranger will watch to the end.

I've been making them for over a decade, and I'm hands-on at every stage: script, storyboard, design, animation and sound. The person who shapes your script is the person who animates it.

What you get

  • A script and a frame-by-frame storyboard
  • Custom design and animation, or stock templates and graphics reworked to fit your brand
  • Professional voiceover, cast and briefed
  • Music and sound design
  • A master file plus social cuts in every aspect ratio
  • Captions (SRT) for accessibility
  • Two rounds of changes at every stage

Who it's for

  • Government agencies explaining a policy or program
  • Health services promoting a service or behaviour change
  • Universities and training providers
  • Businesses launching a product or service

What it costs

Most explainers land between $6,000 and $18,000. It's a fixed fee, never hourly. My pricing post breaks down what moves the number.

How it runs

Script first,pictures second

  1. Chat

We talk through what people need to know, feel and do. Then I send a proposal with a fixed quote.

  2. Script and storyboard

Bring your script or we write it together, then I sketch every scene so you can see it before it moves.

    Weeks 1 to 2
  3. Animate

Voiceover gets recorded and I animate to it, refining with your feedback until it's right.

    Weeks 3 to 5
  4. Deliver

Explainer questions

It depends on length, style and how much needs writing. Most explainers land between $6,000 and $18,000. I quote a fixed fee, not an hourly rate, so the price can't drift without us talking first. There's a full breakdown in my animation cost guide.

About six weeks from kickoff to final files. That covers script, storyboard, animation and sound. Simpler pieces can move faster, and I'll lock in the timeline before we start. No rush, though. If approvals take longer on your side, I go at your pace.

Yes, and I enjoy it. Some clients bring their own script, others we write together. Either way, a good explainer lives or dies on its script, so I'll help get it right before anything is drawn.

An explainer tells a story, usually with a voiceover, to make one idea make sense. Motion graphics is animated design: type, shapes, data and titles. Most projects use a bit of both.
