Animation FAQs
Straightanswers
What it costs, how long it takes and how it all works. If your question isn't here, just ask.
How much does an animation cost?
It depends on length, style and how much needs writing. Most explainers land between $6,000 and $18,000. I quote a fixed fee, not an hourly rate, so the price can't drift without us talking first. There's a full breakdown in my animation cost guide.
How long does production take?
About six weeks from kickoff to final files. That covers script, storyboard, animation and sound. Simpler pieces can move faster, and I'll lock in the timeline before we start. No rush, though. If approvals take longer on your side, I go at your pace.
Can you work to our brand guidelines?
Happily. I've worked inside plenty of brand books and I'm comfortable matching a house style. If your brand is still forming, I can help shape how it moves.
Do you write scripts?
Yes, and I enjoy it. Some clients bring their own script, others we write together. Either way, a good explainer lives or dies on its script, so I'll help get it right before anything is drawn.
How many rounds of changes are included?
I work until you're happy with it. Every quote covers two rounds of changes at each stage: script, storyboard and final animation. Changes that take us back a stage, like rewriting the script once animation has started, cost extra, and I'll always tell you before that happens.
Do you make e-learning content?
Yes. Animated modules, micro-learning videos and training content for universities, RTOs, L&D teams and government, LMS-ready including SCORM. I also build interactive content, from click-through modules to tools like My Skills Match for ReturnToWorkSA.
Do you work outside Adelaide?
Yes. About a third of my work is local and the rest comes from interstate and overseas. Everything runs on video calls and online review tools.
Do you handle voiceover and sound?
Yes. I cast the voiceover and brief the artist, license or commission the music, and do the sound design.
What file formats do you deliver?
Whatever you need: ProRes or H.264 masters, social cuts in every aspect ratio, SRT captions, and LMS-ready files for e-learning.
What is the difference between an explainer video and motion graphics?
An explainer tells a story, usually with a voiceover, to make one idea make sense. Motion graphics is animated design: type, shapes, data and titles. Most projects use a bit of both.
What software do you use?
After Effects for animation, Illustrator for design and Premiere for the edit.
How do I get started?
Fill in the short brief or send me an email. Either way, I'll reply personally within two working days.
